In December, my cat Elmer developed some kidney and liver problems.  My husband, Matthew, and I had just moved from Boston to Grand Rapids, Michigan, so that I could start up Windy Weather Bindery.  Over the course of the next few months, Elmer’s medical bills rose, while the economy made finding a job more difficult for Matthew than we had anticipated. So, being the good capitalists that we are, we decided to publish a collection of comics that featured Elmer and his sister, Montana, to raise money to pay for Elmer’s medical care.

High Maintenance Machine: The Complete Cat Collection collects all of the High Maintenance Machine (HMM) strips featuring Montana and Elmer.  If you are not familiar with HMM, it was Matthew’s daily cartoon diary, which ran for over two years.  There is also an introduction by Paisley the cat, the feline cartoonist behind Hey Pais!.

As of mid-February, Elmer is recovering and is back to playing with his toys and chasing Montana.  Not so happily, Matt and I still have those vet bills to pay. If you would like to purchase a book and help us out, visit my Etsy store.
